: RELEASE NOTES |

Turn any image into clean pixel art. Paintings, 3D renders and
photobashes go in. Sprites, portraits, textures and backgrounds
come out, ready for your game.

Ditherdragon removes the background, scales your image down, picks
the colors, cleans up stray pixels and draws the outline. You see
the result live while you move the sliders, and every change can be
undone.

Prerendered sprites, like the classics
Build your world in 3D, render it once, and play it in pixels.
Animated characters, creatures, props: Ditherdragon turns every
frame into pixel art, with one shared palette so nothing flickers.
Drop in a GIF, a sprite sheet or a folder of frames.

Render a character from eight angles and get a matching walk cycle
for every direction, ready for your sprite sheet.

Your characters, in pixels
Faces stay faces. Ditherdragon keeps the eyes, the colors and the
light of your character art, so portraits and dialogue faces still
look like the same person.

Choose how chunky
One slider sets the size. Fewer pixels give you bold, readable
shapes. More pixels keep the details.

Backgrounds removed for you
Ditherdragon cuts out the subject before it scales the image down,
so you get a clean sprite with a transparent background. It runs on
your computer. Nothing is uploaded.

From 3D render to sprite
Render your model in Blender or your engine and drop the image in.
The 3D Render and Isometric Retro presets give you crisp sprites
with a clean outline.

Textures for your levels
Hand-painted textures turn into crisp pixel art tiles that still
tile. Add a few pixels of moss and your dungeon walls are done.

Scenes and backgrounds
Concept art and paintings become backgrounds with clean areas of
color, not a noisy mess of dither.

One look for your whole game
Assets from different sources rarely match. Run them through one
preset and they share a size, a palette and an outline.

Fix AI pixel images
AI images look like pixel art until you zoom in. The pixels have
different sizes, they are off the grid, and there are thousands of
almost equal colors. The Repair AI pixels preset finds the real
grid and gives every pixel one color.

Features
Live preview: a split view of the source and the result, a 1:1
preview, and undo for every change.
Background removal on your computer: seven models (one built in,
six you can download when you need them), GPU when possible.
Five ways to scale down: nearest, box, K-centroid, Contrast and
Pixel Art Fixer. Keep thin lines saves 1 px outlines and small
details.
53 palettes: plus Lospec import, .hex / .gpl / .png palette files,
or an automatic palette for each image or for all frames together.
11 dither methods: from Bayer and blue noise to Floyd?Steinberg and
Atkinson, if you want that retro look.
Filters before the scale-down: median, bilateral, Kuwahara, blur,
sharpen, ink lines and expand outlines.
Material detection: a brown handle stays brown, even when the
palette has no matching brown.
Cleanup: remove stray pixels, add an outline in any color, make the
alpha hard.
Batches and animation: drop a folder, a GIF or a sprite sheet.
Export PNG, sprite sheet, GIF or PNG sequence at 1? to 8?.
Presets: Clean Sprite, 3D Render, Isometric Retro, Repair AI pixel
art, Painted look, Game Boy, Ditherdragon v1 look, and your own.
Command line: run the same pipeline in scripts and build steps. The
app writes the command for your current settings.
