     Mr. Hood is a staple of hip-hop's golden era of sampling. It's packed with
     bumpin', melodic hooks, both funny and conscious rhymes, and killer flow
     from a young Zev Love X (later MF Doom). And the breadth of samplesfunk,
     soul, jazz, blues, Sesame Street records, and, most notably, the recurring
     character of Mr. Hood, a drug dealer cleverly drawn from a
     learn-to-speak-English recordis rivaled only by a handful of other LPs
     from the same era. At 60-plus minutes there's bound to be some filler, but
     this is as dense, indispensable, and enjoyable an album as De La Soul's
     Three Feet High and Rising, Brand Nubian's One for All, and the debut from
     Leaders of the New School. Reissued multiple times and consistently named
     as one of the best releases of the 1990sregardless of musical genreit's
     justifiably considered a classic.
